About Us

When we were building our log home in the beautiful Beaver Valley in Ontario's ski country (near Intrawest's Blue Mountain) a few years ago, we managed to find only a couple of accessible retailers who carried things like antler lighting, animal hides, native arts, rustic iron items, lodge-look accessories and Adirondacks inspired furnishings. The prices were often exhorbitant! In the end, as it became apparent there was a niche that was being very poorly serviced in Canada - or at least in Ontario - we decided to start importing some items directly, and giving local artisans the work of creating some of our own designs for other items we wanted. We then created a retail and consulting business specializing in log homes & rustic interiors that has fluorished since our first Show & Sale event in March 2002. We strive to provide all of those unique décor products which truly define a rustic environment. And we'll always try to get you the look you're after for a better price than you'll find anywhere else.

As a love of extending hospitality is virtually bred in our bones, it was a natural transition to create the unusual retail concept that is our trademark. Opening our home to visitors is something we always do readily anyway and we have found that we meet some of the nicest and most interesting people at our Open House Show & Sale events. Each "customer" is greeted on the threshold of our magnificent Scott Hay-built home with the offer of refreshments and a relaxed self-conducted tour of the house. In other words, everyone who enters is made to feel like a personally invited guest and never leaves without the promise of a return visit.

Deer Mounts

A deer or elk mount created by a professional taxidermist is truly a work of art that will last you for years to come. These majestic creatures add character and personality to any rustic decor and are available in a variety of species, sizes and mounts. The most common mounts are often of large animals such as deer, elk or buffalo.

The taxidermy process begins when the animal is skinned and the hide is tanned to preserve the color of the deer's fur. The animal hide must be cut in a certain manner to facilitate proper mounting, which is known as caping. Finally, the cape is stretched over a Styrofoam form, pinned, and glued in place. After a few finishing touches, the mount is ready for display.

Decorating with Deer Mounts

These mounts are typically large pieces which create a profound presence in any home. Deer mounts can make an excellent presentation above your fireplace, sofa, or bed. Remarkably lifelike and powerful in appearance, deer mounts can add the perfect centerpiece to your lodge or log cabin home, capturing a powerful and majestic feel.

If you're planning a trip to the Beaver Valley area in Ontario, Canada, please give us a call. We'd love to meet you in person and give you a tour of our own log cabin home, where you'll see many of the fine pieces we offer to our customers. If you can't visit in person, we'll ship anywhere within the U.S. and Canada. Just call us at (519) 599-6652 for a free consultation or email us at info@loghomeandrusticinteriors.com.

As it is illegal in Canada to sell Canadian wildlife or any parts thereof, most of our animal mounts and hides are imported.
